Michael Graves Design Monthly Delight Feature: A Broom Above Every Other!
Amanda's Story
In the early 2000s, I was a newly almost married twenty-something who couldn't wait to run to my nearest target, well to be honest the only target within driving distance, every few days to see what was new from Michael Graves. This was before everything was at the tip of our fingers so I had to go to the store to see what there was available. I dutifully added each and every gadget and gizmo in that beautiful blue, white, yellow with that crooked red signature to my wedding registry; the crock pot, salt and pepper shaker, ironing board, tea kettle, toaster, pepper mill and hand mixer, measuring cups, garlic press and paper towel holder. Now being the young twenty-something and almost married to a deployed marine with no money I had no way of purchasing these things myself the wedding registry would have to do. Then one day as luck would have it, I came across a sale item that not only did I need, but could afford on my baby budget.
The Michael Graves Broom
I bought the broom secretly worrying at the register that the sale was wrong. I ran home to sweep my small barely furnished home. That small item meant so much to me, I was finally grown, purchasing trendy kitchen supplies and my house eventually would be filled with many more of Mr. Graves beautiful gadgetry, but as they say you never forget your first.
Twenty four years later, I sat today on the floor in tears as the cover for my Michael Graves broom broke and I realized it might finally be time to kiss those bristles goodbye and buy something new. As you'll see in the picture below this broom has been well loved and well used, moved to three homes, survived 2 children, 2 dogs and 1.5 cats, survived my first husband (I got custody of all the MG in the divorce), swept many floors and wrestled many spiders as it was effortlessly doing today when tragedy struck.
As I sat laughing at myself for crying over a 24 year old broom, I thought about the joy of that day a lifetime ago, MG represented a new chapter for me, I was so proud to display all of my MG once the bridal shower was over and still all these years later I still have and use many of those items.
I wanted to share all of this because I want you to know that what you do is appreciated, these products can bring out joy when you'd least expect it. While the trials of that twenty-something weren't earth shattering, the movement that was MG circa 2000 very much gave me something to look forward to. I'm certain you don't hear it often, but Thank You.
