Michael Graves Design Monthly Delight Feature: Meet Lanes

This month we had the pleasure of speaking with Lanes for our Michael Graves Design Monthly Delight Feature! Keep reading to find out more about Lanes' story and what led her to Michael Graves Design!

Tell us about yourself, what’s your story?

My name is Delaney, but most folks call me Lanes and I’m a cane user in my senior year of college. Two years ago, I was having a really bad chronic illness flare up and was talking with friend of mine about purchasing a cane. I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user, so I’ve used other mobility aids in the past, but I live in New York and it’s not the easiest to get around there if you’re not able bodied. I bought my first cane later that week and have been using cane ever since!

What is one thing you’d like our readers to know?

I don’t use my cane every day, but when I do, I always get stares. Usually it’s from elderly
people or children who don’t understand why someone who looks like me would need a
cane. Every so often, I lock eyes with someone who looks at my cane and just smiles at me like a normal person. That’s always nice.

What led you to MGD?

My boyfriend actually picked out this cane for me when I was in need of a new one. He
thought it looked the coolest and most comfortable.

What do you love most about the company Michael Graves Design?

One of the main reasons that Michael Graves Design stuck out to me was the colors! When I was first looking for a cane, I felt uninspired by the options. Most of the ones I saw were either made from metal or wood and were the same couple shapes. When I first laid eyes on the Michael Graves cane, I fell in love with it instantly!

If you use one of our canes, which do you use? The C-Grip Cane or the
Quick-Fold?

I use the C-Grip Cane. It is, by far, the most comfortable handle I’ve ever used. My wrists never ache from using it, even for hours at a time.

What do the Michael Graves Design canes bring to the table that others were
lacking?

The colors are what caught my eye first. I liked that the designs weren’t made with just
children or elderly people in mind. They felt sophisticated, simple, and sleek.

Which color cane is your favorite?

I have the C grip cane in Sage Green and I LOVE it. If I could choose another one, I think the Sunbaked Clay color is also totally my style.
