Michael Graves Design Monthly Delight Feature: Meet Donnie

For this month’s Monthly Delight we had the pleasure of hearing from Donnie, a veteran whose journey with osteoarthritis has led him to discover just how impactful thoughtful design can be. After years of using mobility aids that were functional at best and uncomfortable at worst, Donnie found new comfort, confidence, and daily support with the Michael Graves Design C-Grip Cane. Here’s his story:

“I have received my replacement Michael Graves Design walking aid today. The OA in my hands, hip, and knees has worsened recently. The aids I had been relying on were alright—mostly serving a purpose—but some were uncomfortable, ugly, and ungainly.

Your MGD cane has been so much more beneficial than any other cane I’ve tried. The new and innovative designs and ergonomic handles, materials, graphics, glitter and such were not really contributing to comfort or adding anything of value.

My first MGD cane was a 2024 Christmas gift that I came to covet and very much rely on, and it served me well. The overall design and shape of the handle fits me. It just “comes to hand” easier and feels most comfortable.

The C-shaped handle helps me in rising by gripping the lower part. This is also handy for bending to pick things up, as I steady myself on it and, upon rising, regrip the top. For me, the C is incredibly utilitarian, as noted in your literature.

Thank you for such a helpful and beautiful design. It also gets many comments—especially at the VA facilities I frequent. Many veterans there use walking aids, so I mention MGD, of course, when my cane is mentioned.”
