It is the start of a new year and you know what that means—it’s time for those New Year’s resolutions! This year, why not put your health at the top of your list? Consider making mobility a priority. Whether it’s walking more or using a cane, taking care of yourself should be your top priority.

Walking More

Walking is one of the most effective forms of exercise, and it can have tremendous benefits for your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Just 30 minutes a day, three times per week can help improve cardiovascular health, strength, posture, balance and flexibility. Plus it’s free! So why not give it a try?

Using a Cane

If longer distances are something that you struggle with due to reduced mobility or balance issues, there are many options available in walking accessories such as canes or walking sticks. Canes provide support by transferring some weight away from the legs to the upper body while also providing stability on uneven terrain. There are several types available depending on your needs including folding canes and quad canes. Different types also offer adjustable height settings so you can find the right position for you.

Walking Accessories

Walking accessories such as canes should be chosen carefully based on individual needs and preferences. The main considerations when selecting a cane include weight capacity; grip type; size/height; material (wooden handles are preferred over plastic); design; additional features such as LED lights or laser pointers; and cost. Comfort is also an important factor to consider since you will be using it daily if you plan to walk more often. It's important to make sure that you select the proper size for your body type in order for it to work effectively and safely.

Prioritizing Health

Taking care of yourself starts with making mobility achievable by setting realistic goals such as walking more or using walking accessories like a cane or walking stick as needed. With these goals in mind, this new year can be an opportunity to prioritize health and wellness by incorporating small changes into your daily routine that lead to big results in both physical activity levels and overall happiness!  Everyone deserves to feel great about themselves—so go out there and take care of yourself!
