Michael Graves Design x Pottery Barn Bathroom

Brand Partnership with Pottery Barn

Overview

The bathroom is where safety concerns are highest and accessible design has too often fallen short. Our expanded collaboration with Pottery Barn takes this challenge head-on, with thoughtfully integrated solutions like a grab bar vanity, a multi-use grab bar trellis for the shower, and dual-purpose towel and toilet paper holders with built-in grab bars. Each product draws from ethnographic research and lived experiences of people across ages and abilities.

Our Research Process

Design With

When Michael Graves became paralyzed in 2003, we gained a lot of firsthand experience with accessibility and the built environment. Our designers have worked from a wheelchair and used other mobility devices to gain empathy. We have also engaged in hundreds upon hundreds of hours of ethnographic research with older adults and people with disabilities to learn more. We also conduct Consumer Preference Testing where potential customers review prototypes. We refer to this product design process as “Design with” our target consumers.
